eMapSite.com
to show UK’s first web-based digital mapping service at GIS
2000
Issue
date: 18 July 2000
eMapSite.com
a UK start-up company, will demonstrate their new, unique website
that provides online digital mapping solutions for large commercial
digital map users and website owners at the GIS 2000 exhibition
taking place at Earls Court 26-28 September.
The
innovative website at eMapSite.com provides access to
information from a growing list of leading map and image publishers,
including Ordnance Survey, getmapping.com, Bartholomew Mapping
Solutions, A-Z, and Cities Revealed. Based on Image Web Server
technology, the site enables user to search, browse, zoom, view,
print and download the available map data over the internet
to suit their specific requirements. They can then import and
use the data in their own GIS, CAD and other image processing
and office applications.
"eMapSite
revolutionises the way that large commercial map users, such
as utilities, telcos, public authorities obtain their data,
" says James Cutler, eMapSite’s Chief Executive.
" It reduces their associated costs of sourcing, obtaining,
storing and distributing the data – we look after all the issues
related to updating, maintenance, copyright and royalties."
eMapSite
also widens the market for its suppliers’ digital map data and
makes the data more easily available for users to select and
buy only the data they require.

Note
for Editors
eMapSite.com
is a UK registered company based in Hampshire, England,
and established by James Cutler and Justin Saunders, who
share over 30 years GIS experience, the last 7 years with their
own consultancy, GISL Limited. eMapSite is the first
commercial service to deliver large-scale georeferenced maps and
images in real time over the Internet. eMapSite uses
Image Web Server technology that also allows the user to
interactively roam and zoom over imagery.
The new eMapSite service brings benefits to two
distinct markets: commercial map users, such as utilities,
telcos, the public sector and professional GIS users, who need
easy, affordable access to digital map data for their GIS
applications; and website owners who wish to add informative and
compelling mapping content to their websites. The eMapSite
website at www.emapsite.com went live on 30 June 2000. eMapSite
is enabled by Level 3 Communications. Image Web Server is a
product of Earth Resource Mapping (www.ermapper.com).
