eMapSite.com
launch revolutionary web-based digital mapping service for commercial
map users
Issue
date:27 September 2000
eMapSite.com
today announced the official public launch of their revolutionary
web-based digital mapping service at GIS 2000, the leading GIS
and spatial business intelligence event taking place at Earls
Court 2, London, 26-28 September 2000. The new service at www.emapsite.com
is the first to enable both purchase and delivery of large-scale
georeferenced map images in real time over the Internet.
eMapSite
is a B2B mapping portal that enables large commercial map users,
who need mapping GIS and other applications, to search, browse,
view, purchase and use digital map data from a wide variety
of data providers via the Internet.
eMapsite
reduces the costs of obtaining, using, managing and storing
maps as everything is done online, via a simple step-by-step
process on eMapSite’s
website.
In
enabling users to select only the maps they need, eMapSite
helps customers get the most of out of their mapping budget.
Customers are not restricted to pre-defined datasets, but can
seamlessly roam and zoom over the map image to select precisely
the map area they want.
With
all major UK map providers’ data being available from eMapSite,
customers need only visit eMapSite
to search for and source the maps they need. There is no delay
in delivery of the data as customers are provided with a URL
to access their purchased data. As the data remains on eMapSite’s
servers, there are no storage or other issues for the customer
to deal with and as the data is georeferenced, it can be used
directly in their GIS applications without further processing.
eMapSite manage
maintenance and updating of the data, and also monitor usage
to calculate and protect copyright and royalty payments.
eMapSite
also brings significant benefits to data providers. By making
maps more accessible, easier to obtain, and more affordable
for small users, eMapSite
widens and deepens the market for maps. It also decreases distribution
and maintenance costs for the data providers and adds value
to their data through integration with other datasets.
Since
the soft launch of the website in June 2000, eMapSite
have generated and received great interest in their revolutionary
new service, from commercial map users and map providers alike.

for Editors
eMapSite.com
is a UK registered company based in Hampshire, England,
and established by James Cutler and Justin Saunders,
who share over 30 years GIS experience, the last 7 years with
their own consultancy, GISL Limited. eMapSite is the

maps and images in real time over the Internet. eMapSite

distinct markets: commercial map users, such as utilities, telcos,
the public sector and professional GIS users, who need easy,
affordable access to digital map data for their GIS applications;
and website owners who wish to add informative and compelling
mapping content to their websites. The eMapSite website
