eMapSite.com
offers a glimpse into the future of online GIS data
Issue
date: Friday 19th January 2001
eMapSite.com
are holding a series of seminars for users of digital mapping,
such as local authorities and utilities, to demonstrate how
they can benefit from eMapSite’s online data purchase and hosting
services.
The
seminars will take place at eMapSite’s offices in Hampshire,
and are open to all those who make use of digital mapping in
their GIS and other information systems and want to learn how
they can reduce the costs associated with the procurement, management
and use of GIS data.
eMapSite is an online provider of geo-referenced, application-ready
digital maps and images, including street-level mapping and
aerial photography, from a wide range of publishers. eMapSite’s
services can help users of digital map data reduce costs by
removing the need to process, store, duplicate and distribute
the data in-house. The services also save time spent on searching
for maps and waiting for their delivery.
At
their website, eMapSite provide
a one-stop multi-vendor facility for digital map acquisition
where users can select and buy their specific area of interest
from within large online seamless map databases. Customers then
load the purchased data directly into their GIS application
via a URL link to eMapSite’s servers. This removes the
requirement for maintenance and updates by providing access
to the latest maps, and makes it easier and cheaper to share
data from multiple locations.
Attendees
at the seminars will also hear about a new UK street level mapping
resource from Lovell Johns.

Note
for Editors
eMapSite.com
is a UK registered company based in Hampshire, England,
and established by James Cutler and Justin Saunders,
who share over 30 years GIS experience, the last 7 years with
their own consultancy, GISL Limited. eMapSite is the
first commercial service to deliver large-scale georeferenced
maps and images in real time over the Internet. eMapSite
uses Image Web Server technology that also allows the user to
interactively roam and zoom over imagery.
The new eMapSite service brings benefits to two
distinct markets: commercial map users, such as utilities, telcos,
the public sector and professional GIS users, who need easy,
affordable access to digital map data for their GIS applications;
and website owners who wish to add informative and compelling
mapping content to their websites. The eMapSite website
at www.emapsite.com went live on 30 June 2000. eMapSite
is enabled by Level 3 Communications. Image Web Server is a
product of Earth Resource Mapping (www.ermapper.com).
