eMapSite.com
becomes reseller for Geographers’ A-Z digital street and road
maps
Issue
date: Wed 10 January 2001
eMapSite
announce they have established an online reseller agreement
with Geographers’ A-Z Map Company Ltd., one of the UK’s
leading independent map publishing companies. A selected range
of A-Z street and road maps are now available for purchase online
at www.emapsite.com.
“A-Z
join an ever-growing number of map publishers who see the opportunity
to reach new markets via eMapSite”, says James Cutler,
eMapSite’s Chief Executive and joint-founder. “Our unique
method of delivery reduces the costs associated with supplying
the data for the publisher, whilst at the same time making it
easier for users to source, access and use the data.”
eMapSite allow users to view maps before they buy and
also to select the precise area they want, rather than be limited
to pre-defined datasets or tiles. eMapSite have processed
and compressed the A-Z data to create a series of seamless map
databases and deliver it to customers in ECW format using Image
Web Server technology. eMapSite are the only online provider
that offer access to application-ready map data via the Internet.
This removes the need for the customer to wait for delivery
of the data on CD and then process and store the map data on
their own systems. They simply access the data via a URL using
an ECW-enabled application.
Norman
Dennison Cartographic Director, of Geographers’ A-Z remarked
“We are delighted that our maps are now available on eMapSite.
This makes our maps even more widely available and offers our
customer’s a new option for purchase.”

eMapSite.com
is a UK registered company based in Hampshire, England,
and established by James Cutler and Justin Saunders,
who share over 30 years GIS experience, the last 7 years with
their own consultancy, GISL Limited. eMapSite is the
first commercial service to deliver large-scale georeferenced
maps and images in real time over the Internet. eMapSite
uses Image Web Server technology that also allows the user to
interactively roam and zoom over imagery.
The new eMapSite service brings benefits to two
distinct markets: commercial map users, such as utilities, telcos,
the public sector and professional GIS users, who need easy,
affordable access to digital map data for their GIS applications;
and website owners who wish to add informative and compelling
mapping content to their websites. The eMapSite website
at www.emapsite.com went live on 30 June 2000. eMapSite
is enabled by Level 3 Communications. Image Web Server is a
product of Earth Resource Mapping (www.ermapper.com).
