e-street
and eMapSite partnership maps out the future of interactive
mapping on the Web
Issue
date: Monday 29 January 2001
e-street.com,
London's premier online city guide, and eMapSite, the
leading online distribution portal for digital mapping, today
announce a partnership agreement to develop and market innovative
interactive mapping solutions for website owners. The revenue-sharing
agreement will combine the best of e-street's expertise in building
online city guides, with eMapSite's cutting-edge interactive
mapping technology, to provide tailor-made interactive content
that will greatly enrich web sites.
Whilst businesses on www.e-street.com
can already benefit from the most advanced online content and
digital maps through the site, this partnership will extend
the reach of the integrated service to other third parties.
Real value will be added to individual websites, such as property
sites, which until now have had only basic maps with pre-defined
areas or placenames and limited information on local businesses
and services.
With
this deal, a comprehensive database will be compiled with details
of local pubs, shops, bars and other street-facing facilities
- courtesy of e-street. Interactive maps from eMapSite will
give more specific information on their location. The scale
and choice of maps available is decided by web site owners and
can comprise any map or other geo-referenced image, such as
an aerial photograph. Both database and maps will be branded
for the specific web sites.
eMapSite
co-founder, James Cutler, commented: "The decision to partner
with e-street was an easy one. Having been recently voted 'Site
of the Year' by Internet Magazine, e-street.com is clearly a
well-regarded and serious online property."
Toppo
Todhunter, e-street CEO UK, added: "via this new partnership,
any online property can benefit from eMapSite's compelling
mapping content and advanced technology. This is far superior
to that of its competitors and we expect a healthy uptake of
this service with big brand companies."

Note
for Editors
eMapSite.com
is a UK registered company based in Hampshire, England,
and established by James Cutler and Justin Saunders,
who share over 30 years GIS experience, the last 7 years with
their own consultancy, GISL Limited. eMapSite is the
first commercial service to deliver large-scale georeferenced
maps and images in real time over the Internet. eMapSite
uses Image Web Server technology that also allows the user to
interactively roam and zoom over imagery.
The new eMapSite service brings benefits to two
distinct markets: commercial map users, such as utilities, telcos,
the public sector and professional GIS users, who need easy,
affordable access to digital map data for their GIS applications;
and website owners who wish to add informative and compelling
mapping content to their websites. The eMapSite website
at www.emapsite.com went live on 30 June 2000. eMapSite
is enabled by Level 3 Communications. Image Web Server is a
product of Earth Resource Mapping (www.ermapper.com).
