Detailed height and terrain data available from eMapSite
Issue
date: 26th October 2001
eMapSite
is pleased to announce that is has reached agreement with
Ordnance Survey to produce and deliver a new range of value
added products based on the detailed height data contained within
the OS's Land-Form PROFILE data set.
Land-Form
PROFILE is the 1:10,000 scale digital height dataset covering
the whole of Great Britain. The new agreement will allow eMapSite
to offer and deliver interpolated grids with output resolution
identical to the 10m input resolution. This agreement makes
eMapSite the sole source for such ready-to-use surface models
that can be supplied in multiple formats either with true heights
(Land-Form PROFILE DEM) or as a plain colour image.
These
products are the most detailed national terrain information
data sets available today and will be of relevance and interest
to both project based users for whom easy access and rapid delivery
are paramount and to strategic map users for whom data management
and distribution continues to be a headache.
In
particular professional map users in civil engineering, property,
surveying, estate management, asset management, landscape planning,
architecture, geotechnics and environmental assessment who are
more fully exploiting GIS and geographic data in general whether
for in-house, collaborative or PR purposes will find this data
and the speed and method of delivery very useful additions to
their activities.
Users
can acquire exactly their area of interest via the Internet
for use in their GIS applications. eMapSite is the first commercial
service to deliver georeferenced map images in real time over
the Internet. eMapSite uses Image Web Server technology that
allows the user to interactively roam and zoom over imagery.
This technology also enables eMapSite to offer exciting solutions
to website owners who wish to add informative and compelling
mapping content to their websites.
Steve
Johnson, Partnership Licensing Account Manager at Ordnance Survey
says "Making our data available via eMapSite opens up a
new online channel for us and will make this Ordnance Survey
data even more accessible to those who need high quality maps
to use in their business or on their website."
eMapSite's
founder and Chief Executive, James Cutler adds, "eMapSite
continues to push the envelope when adding value to our suppliers
data and this agreement represents a new phase in affording
fit for purpose products to widen the market for Ordnance Survey's
data. Our service makes obtaining maps simpler and more affordable,
as users are able to browse, select and buy only the data they
need and have it delivered directly to their desktop."
Pricing
arrangements for these detailed data sets provide for never
before available unit costs on a per square kilometre basis,
making these PROFILE derived maps even more attractive in their
target markets.
