eMapSite
and Snowflake Software pioneer web services for OS MasterMap.
eMapSite,
the leading provider of hosted services for geographic data, and
Snowflake Software, the innovative developers behind GO-Loader,
today announced their intention to jointly develop an entirely
new range of web services for Ordnance Survey’s MasterMap
large scale data.
As
Ordnance Survey Licensed Partners, the two companies have an
in-depth understanding of Ordnance Survey and their products,
especially OS MasterMap. James Cutler, Chief Executive at
eMapSite says of the alliance, “web services are the value for
money solution to the complexities of using and managing OS
MasterMap; the unique capabilities and intellectual property of
Snowflake take our existing high end hosting solutions to a new
level and enable users to access and use OS MasterMap quickly,
easily and cost effectively”.
Web
services are equally suitable for central and local government
organisations eligible for or in receipt of OS MasterMap and for
commercial organisations on a true pay as you use basis. The
fully OGC compliant services offer both browser based access to
MasterMap and the facility to embed the requested data in any
application. Such
cross platform capability opens up MasterMap to all users in all
sectors.
The
initial service uses eMapSite’s established hosting technology
to stream MasterMap to users while the roll-out programme
provides a menu of services including database query and
retrieval and full feature serving.
