Leading
education website Schoolsnet.com chooses revolutionary map service
Issue
date:27 September 2000
Schoolsnet,
the UK’s No1 education website for schools and colleges, has
selected eMapSite.com to provide map content for its website
at www.schoolsnet.com.
The
new map content uses revolutionary technology that allows Schoolsnet
users to interactively roam and zoom over street maps and aerial
photography of schools and their surroundings.
The new map service has been available on a limited basis
for the past month but is now being gradually rolled out to
show the location of every school in the country.
“The
eMapSite solution
provides us with maps that are truly interactive and reinforces
our position as the one-stop reference site for parents,” said
Greg Hadfield, chairman and editor-in-chief of Schoolsnet.
“Parents
– including those looking to buy a new home or whose children
are moving school – will be able to use these map tools to get
more information on the physical location of schools and their
neighbourhoods”.
eMapSite’s
founder and CEO James Cutler said: “We are delighted that Schoolsnet
have chosen us to be their map provider. Our service is truly
unique as we provide the only web-based maps that allow the
user to seamlessly roam and zoom over imagery. This means users
can select and view the areas they are interested in, rather
than limiting them to predefined views as other map services
do.”
The
eMapSite service
will provide Schoolsnet access to street maps and aerial photography
from several suppliers, including getmapping.com, Cities Revealed
and Overview Mapping.

Note
for Editors
eMapSite.com
is a UK registered company based in Hampshire, England,
and established by James Cutler and Justin Saunders,
who share over 30 years GIS experience, the last 7 years with
their own consultancy, GISL Limited. eMapSite is the
first commercial service to deliver large-scale georeferenced
maps and images in real time over the Internet. eMapSite
uses Image Web Server technology that also allows the user to
interactively roam and zoom over imagery.
The new eMapSite service brings benefits to two
distinct markets: commercial map users, such as utilities, telcos,
the public sector and professional GIS users, who need easy,
affordable access to digital map data for their GIS applications;
and website owners who wish to add informative and compelling
mapping content to their websites. The eMapSite website
at www.emapsite.com went live on 30 June 2000. eMapSite
is enabled by Level 3 Communications. Image Web Server is a
product of Earth Resource Mapping (www.ermapper.com).
