- I need some mapping to create a plan in AutoCad so I don’t want a PDF.
- Which map do I need?
- Most councils require you to send them both a Site Location Plan (normally at 1:1250)
and a larger scale, "more zoomed in" Block Plan (at 1:500). It's best to call your
local planning office to check.
- Councils don't mind if the plan is colour or black and white, that's up to you.
If you need to add a lot of markups (outlines etc), a black and white plan might
be clearer.
- Large properties especially in rural areas might need a smaller scale, "more zoomed
out" plan. Try selecting 1:2500 to fit in more geographic area, or select a larger
paper size such as A3.

- Yes, both a north arrow and a scale bar are added automatically for you.

on the map - what do I do?
- The OS update their map data constantly, but sometimes buildings are not up to date.
If it is simply the outline of your house which isn't quite right, and you don't
need to mark a proposed extension onto the plan, don't worry.
- If your planning application requires you to show an accurate house outline, please
call your local planning office for advice.
- If you have a new house which has not yet been added, again please call your local
planning office for advice.
- I need to draw a boundary line on my plan, how can I do this?
- In the ‘Edit Plan’ stage you can draw on your plan. ‘Pick feature’ is a great tool – if you click this and then click on your property / garden the boundary line will be drawn for you in red

- You will need to enter a reference in this box to continue. If you do not have a Purchase Order reference, you can put another reference in this box. This reference will appear on the invoice.
- Can I order over the phone?
- We are an online company therefore orders are placed on line and your data will be available to download from your online account when processed. Of course you can call us if you need assistance.
- Does your website work with MAC / Safari?
- Yes our site works over all browsers.
- I need some mapping to create a plan in AutoCad so I don’t want a PDF.
- If you need mapping for use in CAD or GIS in different formats (eg. DWG, DXF), you will need to purchase through our Mapshop rather than Plans Ahead. You will be able to do this from the main home page.
