Newsletter - March 2002

Welcome to the latest edition of our Newsletter. A lot of has happened in the New Year and the following brings you up to date:

GIS Users - Test Online Access with our Sample Data Pages

eMapSite are pleased to announce sample pages for GIS users. These allow you to become acquainted with online delivery of digital geographic data to your desktop. From the list below please select your preferred platform and you will be taken to an application specific page listing 6 data sets under the ecwp online access protocol.

The pages are self-explanatory and allow you to:

-> Instantaneously view the selected data in a Map browser window (this may require you to download a plug-in for your browser
-> View the applicable license
-> View the appropriate metadata
-> Select the whole of the text string beginning ecwp:// (and ending .ecw) using the standard copy tool and paste this text string into your application
-> Find out how to install and use the plug-ins

Some GIS software reads ECW and ecwp directly but others will require you to download and install an application plug-in. Please note that not all of the following support both ECW and ecwp (please check with your vendor):

If you like what you see and want to take advantage of the operational and economic benefits that accrue to organisations procuring and sharing data in this way please note that all digital raster geographic data available from eMapSite can be delivered in this manner.

So, what are the benefits and how can you save time and money by using eMapSite. Well, firstly we offer great value, with discounts for business users but we also make it faster and easier for users to obtain and use the data because:

-> You only have to buy the area you need, thereby making better use of your budget
-> The data is application-ready, so requires no further processing to use in your GIS, CAD, image processing or office application
-> Data is provided in a compressed format so takes less storage space on your system and is faster to load
-> Data is provided as one single file, making it easier for you to use, manage and share
-> We pride ourselves on our fast delivery (via URL or on CD/DVD) so you get working with the data sooner

If your software does not support ECW or ecwp and you want to have the same benefits we suggest you contact your vendor to encourage them to integrate ECW and ecwp support into their next release!
