How much does a Planning map cost in the UK?

The short answer is this: a planning map doesn’t have one fixed national price. It depends on how you are getting it, what you need, and whether you are buying the map on its own or using a planning application service that bundles mapping into a wider charge.

The important thing is to separate the cost of the map itself from the cost of the planning application. It's a crucial piece of site assessment data.

If you’re buying a planning map directly, then the price will depend on the type of plan, the size of the site, and the supplier you use. In our MapShop, planning application maps start from £9.99 + VAT (price at April 2026)

What you usually need is either:

• A location plan, typically at 1:1250

• A site plan/block plan, typically at 1:500

... or both, depending on the application. 

It is also worth knowing that the Planning Portal works slightly differently. If you are using its location plan feature as part of an online application, then the cost of that feature is included in the Planning Portal service charge for applications that attract one. That service charge is currently £75.83 + VAT. Applications with a planning fee below the relevant threshold don’t incur that service charge.
