Planning maps for commercial developments
Commercial Developments need planning maps. Any authorities involved in the approvals process will expect these to be sourced and presented professionally.
If you’re submitting a planning application for a commercial development, then you’ll usually need a location plan and, in many cases, a site plan or block plan as well. Most planning applications require both, and for commercial sites, it’s especially important that the planning authority can clearly see the site in context and understand how the proposed development fits on the ground.
The location plan shows the site in its wider surroundings. It’s usually based on up-to-date Ordnance Survey mapping at 1:1250 or 1:2500 scale, and should show the application site edged clearly in red, with any other nearby land you own edged in blue. It should also include a north point and enough surrounding detail to identify the site easily.
For commercial developments, a site plan or block plan is likely expected. This helps explain boundaries, access, existing buildings, parking, servicing, and how the proposal relates to the wider site. These plans are often provided at 1:200 or 1:500 scale.
Commercial applications often come with more supporting information than householder proposals, so it’s always worth checking with your local authority first. But if you need to get the right planning map quickly, that is where our MapShop can help.
We can help you access the correct location plan, block plan, or both — using the right OS mapping from the outset, so your application has a stronger chance of being seen as professional.
