How to get a planning map for your property

Getting a planning map for your property is simple. In most cases, you’re looking for a location plan, a site/block plan, or both - and you can order them online through our MapShop in just a few steps.

Our planning maps service was made to make that process quick, easy, and straightforward, with plans processed automatically and emailed to you directly within minutes.

Step 1 - Go to our planning maps for properties service

Start by going to our Planning Maps page. There, you can order planning maps for a range of uses, including planning applications, listed building and conservation area consent, prior notification applications, and land registration applications.

Step 2 - Find your property

Enter your postcode or title number to locate the property. Once you’ve found it, choose the type of plan you need. The standard options are:

  • A4 Location Plan - 1:1250

  • A4 Site / Block Plan - 1:500

You can order one or both, depending on what you need.

Step 3 - Choose how you want the plan to look

You might want black and white, or you might need colour - there’s no extra charge. You can also add a title and notes so it’s personal to you and easy for other people to understand.

Step 4 - Edit your plan

Most people need to add more detail to these planning maps. With the drawing tools, you can add markings, choose your colour, and adjust the line thickness - making it easy to see what’s important. The location plans and site/block plans also come with a north arrow and a scale bar.

Step 5 - Add to basket and check out

Once the plan looks right, add it to your basket and complete your order. If you need more than one plan, then you can add another before checking out. Professional account holders can also add their own reference and PO number during the checkout process.

Step 6 - Receive your planning map

We’ll email your planning map to you - usually within a few minutes. The map will arrive in a format that’s ready to send electronically to your local authority or print out if needed. Formats available include PDF and PNG.

In short, if you need a planning map for your property, our MapShop gives you a quick way to find the site, choose the right plan, edit it, and receive it fast. And if you’re unsure whether you need a location plan, a block plan, or both, we can help you get the right map for the job.
