What map do I need for permitted development?

If your project falls under permitted development, then you don’t usually need a planning application map in quite the same way you would for a full planning application. That’s because permitted development rights allow certain types of work to go ahead without applying for planning permission.

That said, many property owners still apply for a Lawful Development Certificate (LDC), which can provide extra peace of mind – and go some way to reassuring interested parties that the development is being or has been carried out lawfully. This is especially useful if you need to satisfy buyers or solicitors.

That LDC is not compulsory, but can confirm that a proposal does not require planning permission. If you are applying for a LDC, then you’ll usually need a site location plan, and in most cases you will also need supporting drawings. Some local authorities state that, as a minimum, such an application needs an application form, fee, and site location plan, and drawings too – in which case, our MapShop can help you find the right one quickly and in the right format.

If you’re unsure, it is always worth checking with your local authority first.
