OS Places API provides a detailed view of an address and its life cycle within the United Kingdom, Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man. It contains all the records of AddressBase® Premium and AddressBase® Premium – Islands. This includes local authority, Ordnance Survey and Royal Mail® addresses, current addresses, and alternatives for current addresses, provisional addresses (such as planning developments) and historic information, as well as objects without postal addresses and cross references to OS MasterMap® TOIDS®.

Requests can be made using a full or partial address, a postcode, or UPRN. Searches can also find addresses closest to a given point or all the known addresses within a user-defined area or bounding box. Calls must be made using a secure hypertext encryption (HTTPS) and support TLS v1.2 and queries are returned in either XML or JSON.

OS Places API is used to identify UK addresses, find a unique property reference number (UPRN) for addresses and verify existing address records against authoritative data.
