OS NGD Land Theme provides land cover information contained in OS MasterMap Topography, OS MasterMap Sites and OS MasterMap Greenspace layer products. It provides additional attribution for point, line and polygon features and is structured for more analytical use cases (e.g. land area estimation land cover reports).
OS NGD Land Theme describes the physical and biological surface of the land. Features can be manmade (e.g. residential gardens, tennis courts, construction sites) or natural land (e.g. heath, rough grassland, marsh, mixed trees) with the following attribution:
- Land: polygon feature representing an area that has not otherwise been captured as a Building Part, Rail, Road Track or Path, Structure, or Water Feature Type (e.g. arable or grazing land, made surface, bare earth, grass, heath, rough grassland).
- Land Point: an area too small to capture as a Land feature (e.g. a coniferous tree)
- Landform: polygon feature such as cliffs, artificial slopes, and burial mounds.
- Landform Line: a feature which has a line geometry, typically where there is a significant change in slope angle (NB. used in combination with the Landform Feature Type).
- Landform Point: a point feature too small to be captured as a Landform feature but is of sufficient interest (NB. typically associated with former mineral workings).
OS NGD Land Theme enables visualisation of land cover make-up of Great Britain, particularly when used in combination with data from other collections, such as the OS NGD Building Features, Structure Features, Transport Features, and Water Features Collections.
