Database (NGD)

Millions of Datapoints, Incredible Value

The Ordnance Survey National Geographic Database (OS NGD) is the most comprehensive, most up-to-date, and potentially most valuable database of geospatial information ever created for the benefit of Great Britain – and we can help you to use it.

As one of Ordnance Survey's strategic partners, we're in a great place to help you achieve the best outcomes by harnessing the power of OS NGD. Think of us as a gateway – giving you instant access to OS NGD in the format you want, any time you need it.

What is OS NGD?

• The Ordnance Survey National Geographic Database (OS NGD) stores the information about more than half a billion geographical features in Great Britain.

• It contains more geographical features than any other database, including land, water, buildings, address, transport and administrative units.

• It's a digital representation of real world objects in Great Britain, to better serve analytical use cases.

• Millions of datapoints, all easy to find, surface and visualise. And where previous OS data was updated every six weeks, the OS NGD can be updated daily.

Why Should You Migrate to the OS NGD?

OS data has always been incredibly powerful. However, where older data would show you ‘this is a building and this is its height’, the OS NGD does much, much more.

Today, the OS NGD can confirm that same building’s age, what it’s made from, whether or not it has a basement, and what it’s currently being used for – residential, commercial or mixed use; flats or maisonettes; how many addresses ... up-to-date, accurate information.

UK Government has already adopted the OS NGD, and the public sector is making good use of it. Now other organisations working in the utilities and infrastructure space, as well as a wide range of other commercial businesses are also looking at how OS NGD can enhance their geospatial insights.

When it comes to exploring the opportunities OS NGD could open for your organisation, we're here to help. We can support you, transitioning at a pace that maximises efficiency and minimises disruption.
